The NATO commander in Afghanistan Gen. John Nicholson has said that the so-called Islamic State (ISIL/ISIS) has somehow shown resistance but it will not win in Afghanistan.
The US forces commander in Afghanistan General John Nicholson makes an unannounced visit to eastern Nangarhar province on Monday.

Nangarhar which borders with Pakistan, is counted as the main center of ISIL in Afghanistan.
This comes as Mr. Nicholson had previously said that he will defeat ISIL in Afghanistan in 2017, but the group continues to operate in the country.

He pointed to his presence in the city of Jalalabad and said that ISIL was seeking to establish an Islamic caliphate centered at Jalalabad, but was gradually pushed back to the remote mountains of southern Nangarhar province.

According to him, the presence of ISIL is now limited to these areas, and the group failed to expand its activities in areas such as Kunar and Jawzjan provinces. However, ISIL group declared existence in Afghanistan four years ago and now, it is counted as a serious threat to the security and survival of the current establishment.
