Finally, after a long time, president Ghani appointed Ahmad Shah Zamanzai as the new head of election commission secretariat by issuing a verdict.

“According to decision No. 12 of the IEC and the note No. 545 dated 15/3/1397 (solar year), Ahmad Shah Zamanzai has been appointed as the new head of the IEC secretariat from among the eligible list,” the verdict said.
According to the electoral law, the head of the IEC secretariat is proposed by the majority of the commission members to the presidency to be appointed.

Former chief of the IEC secretariat was Imam Mohammad Warimach, who was sacked by the presidential palace after about seven months of duty last year.

Subsequently, the election commission members proposed a list of qualified individuals to the presidency, but the introduction of the new commission’s secretariat by the presidency lasted close to 9 months.
