Roya Rahmani has been appointed as Afghanistan’s ambassador to the United States, according to officials.
Rahmani will be the first woman to serve in the post in the country’s history.

“Roya Rahmani is one of the talented diplomats of Afghanistan, who had achievements during her service in Indonesia,” said Haroon Chakhansoori, a spokesman for the president.
“She has been appointed as Afghanistan’s new ambassador to US and will begin working there soon,” he added.
Ms. Rahmani has worked as Afghan Ambassador to Indonesia.

Rahmani’s appointment comes after her predecessor Hamdullah Mohib became national security adviser in August.
