The leaders of NUG and International Diplomats gathered in Geneva to review the strategy and aids in order to resolve the Afghan crisis.

According to the UN mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), the goal of the conference is to show the solidarity of the international community with the Afghan people and the government in their efforts for peace and prosperity.
The US Special Representative on Afghan Peace Zalmay Khalilzad attended the conference. He is expected to discuss with diplomats of other countries, Reuters reported.

The conference will also be an opportunity to emphasise the importance of the development and reform agenda and the need to advance it as a constructive contribution to peace and security. This particular conference will also be crucial in measuring results against the $15.2 billion committed by the international community for Afghanistan in 2016, according to UNAMA.

“at least 60 percent of the commitments given in Brussel summit, were implemented. However, there challenges,” Said Haroon Chakhansoori, a spokesman for the presidential palace.
The conference comes at a sensitive time as Taliban attacks on some of Afghanistan escalated.

A high-ranking Taliban member, meanwhile, has recently commented on the Geneva conference.
The Taliban member said: we hope international leaders will accept our demands and push the United States to withdraw all foreign troops from Afghanistan, otherwise this conference will not matter.

Currently, there are nearly 14,000 US troops in Afghanistan operating under the NATO-led training and support mission to counter-terrorism.
