Addressing MPs at the Wolesi Jirga on Saturday morning, President Ghani called on the parliament to introduce 7 MPs, including 3 women to participate at the reconciliation council. Mr. Ghani stressed that the government delegation is ready to negotiate with the Taliban based on universally accepted principles.
“For the National Assembly (parliament) to attend at the National Reconciliation Council, I urge from the respected members to officially introduce two senate members (one man and one women) and 5 members of the House of Representatives (two women and three men) to the government until tomorrow,” said President Ghani while addressing the MPs at the House of Representatives in Kabul.

He added that the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is ready to negotiate with the Taliban group based on International accepted principles.
“I, as a president, have no wish to have Taliban prisoners, but their release must be based on a transparent process and a clear mechanism to make sure that our people will see a change in the situation after their release,” the president said.

He wished that at this critical juncture of the peace process and the destiny of the nation, the whole nation and politicians would pass the challenges with solidarity and seriousness.
“We have reached this point in the peace process as a result of the efforts, sacrifice, and heroism of the country’s security and defense forces. They meticulously destroyed the enemies of Afghanistan who dreamed of dividing this holy land geographically,” he added.
