Jamiat-e Islami party in a statement reacted against the Dr. Abdullah’s deal with president Ghani, stressing that the agreement is Dr. Abdullah’s personal stance and is not related to Jamiat-e Islami party.
Here is the full statement:
“Statement of Jamiat-e-Islami on the political agreement between Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and Dr. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani

As a key member of the Stability and Integration Electoral Team and as the party that had introduced Dr. Abdullah Abdullah as its nominee for the 2019 Presidential Elections, Jamiat-e-Islami does not align itself with the recent agreement signed between Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and Dr. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani. Based on the agreements previously reached between the Leadership Council of Jamiat-e- Islami and Dr. Abdullah, the party’s nominee, Jamiat-e-Islami wants to point out the following:

1- Jamiat-e-Islami believes that the declared results of the 2019 Presidential elections were contrary to the electoral laws and procedures, and lacked the necessary standards and requirements for legitimacy. Therefore, the party had already made it clear that any government formed on the basis of these results will not be legitimate and lawful;
2- Bearing in mind the recent agreement signed between the United States of America and the Taliban and the beginning of the US troops’ withdrawal from Afghanistan, preparations for a national dialogue on peace, as well as the difficult situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for national consolidation to respond to this challenge, Jamiat-e-Islami was not opposed to forming a Government on the basis of a political agreement between all major political stakeholders in Afghanistan, which must have decentralized the political power and should not have given the sole authority of decision making to one individual. However, the agreement signed between Dr. Abdullah and Dr. Ghani, not only ignores the clean votes and genuine will of our people and undermines public trust in democratic processes through legitimization of the fraudulent results of the 2019 elections, but also maintains the centralized structure of the Government. For Jamiat-e-Islami, accepting such a structure would entail crossing the red line and compromising fundamental position on “horizontal distribution of power”;
3- Jamiat-e-Islami has never sought a share or employment in the Government. Rather, its principled goal is to ensure social justice and political stability in Afghanistan by means of a decentralized Government and an inclusive national decision making body. It will never give up on the rightful demand of our people to change the tyrannical structure of the centralized Government;
4- Given the urgent need of our country for a just and durable peace and bearing in mind the sacrifices that Jamiat-e-Islami has made in the path towards peace, including the martyrdom of its leader Professor Burhanuddin Rabbani, this party is of the belief that achieving a just peace requires launching a national dialogue with the meaningful participation of all stakeholders and building a national consensus. It also believes that defending democracy and the achievements of the past two decades is a national obligation of all citizens of Afghanistan.

The members of Jamiate Islami have a firm commitment to change the centralized structure of the government and form a government which is based on the genuine votes of the people.
Having learnt from our half a century of experience in Jihad, Resistance and governance, with all failures, victories, ups and downs we have gone through over this period, and in consultations with other like-minded parties and political figures, we will continue our fight for this noble cause, stronger than ever.”
