First VP Amrullah Saleh, on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of the assassination of Ahmad Shah Massoud and martyr’s week. Emphasized that negotiation with the Taliban group does not mean surrendering to the group’s demands and that approaching the peace is the ideology of Ahmad Shah Massoud.
Speaking at a ceremony commemorating the 19th anniversary of the assassination of Ahmad Shah Massoud-national hero- Amrullah Saleh said that reconciliation and talks with the Taliban does not mean the people want to live in peace with the group under one umbrella and one sky.
“It has become clear today that neither the government nor the Taliban are surrendering to each other,” he said. Adding that “the only way to achieve stability and peace is to reach out to the people, and if the Taliban claim they a place among the people, they must consolidate their status by referring to the people.”
“President Ghani says that his stance in the peace process is rooted in Massoud’s blood.” Saleh said, citing the president – summarizing his message in one sentence.
