Iran, considered as a key player in the Afghan peace process, has announced that it is ready to host talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban.


The Special Representative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Ebrahim Taherian in a meeting with Foreign Minister Haneef Atmar said that Tehran was ready to host the Afghan peace talks.
Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the Iranian envoy Ebrahim Taherian met Foreign Minister Haneef Atmar on Wednesday evening.

Referring to the growing importance of friendly and fraternal relations between Kabul and Tehran, Minister Atmar stressed the need to further strengthen and expand bilateral relations.
Atmar also underscored the urgent need to strengthen regional consensus for the success of the peace process and called Iran’s role in this regard important and valuable.

Iran’s special envoy assured Minister Atmar of his government’s support to the peace process, saying that Tehran was ready to host the Afghan peace talks.
“Iran fully supported the Afghan government’s agenda for peace and all initiatives that contribute to the success of the Afghan Peace Process and preserve the Islamic Republic system,” he added.
